Sylvia E. (Slater) Gauthier, 94, formerly of Westland Drive, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at The Meadows of Leicester. Her husband of almost 44 years, Louis P. “Phil” Gauthier, died July 25, 1985. Affectionately referred to as “Gee”, she leaves two daughters, Corinne L. Staney and her husband Joseph of Wesley Chapel, FL, Phyllis A. Griffin of Spencer; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Leonard and Warren Slater, and her son-in-law, James L. Griffin, predeceased her. She was born in Glastonbury, CT, daughter of the late George and Ida (Hobby) Slater, and was a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford.
Sylvia was a secretary in the Worcester area and an organist for various churches including St. Columba Church in Paxton, MA. She was a devout Catholic and a member of the American Guild of Organists.
A CALLING HOUR will be from 8:15 to 9:15 A.M. on SATURDAY, JAN. 16, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St., Worcester, followed by A FUNERAL MASS at 10 A.M. in ST. COLUMBA CHURCH, 18 Richards Ave., Paxton. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
The family suggests donations in memory of Sylvia be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
