Sylvia E. (Luoma) Forgit, 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025.  Her hometown sweetheart and husband of 67 years, Richard A. Forgit, passed in 2018.  She is survived by her sons: Alan R. Forgit and wife Kay of New York, Andrew R. Forgit and wife Mary Ann of Maine and Robert E. Forgit and his partner Robin of Worcester and her daughter Marie E. Capezio and husband Peter of Southbridge. She was the remaining Matriarch of twelve brothers and sisters: Martha Hyytianen, Ruth Guilfoyle, Evelyn Parker, Helmi Anderson, Nancy Dorr and brothers Taivo, Jacob, Paul, Edwin, Arthur and Henry Luoma. She also leaves her 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Sylvia was born in Leicester, the daughter of the late Jacob and Lydia (Alho) Luoma.  She graduated from Leicester High School, where she met her husband, Richard.  They were married in 1951 and shortly thereafter Richard joined the U.S. Air Force, commencing a life journey of travel.

Retiring from the military as an Air Force family in 1973, Richard and Sylvia accepted a position as property caretakers of the Seaman’s Estate in Beverly Farms, MA. Fifteen years later they retired to the Worcester area where they enjoyed the camaraderie of relatives, socializing with neighbors, traveling to the Caribbean and attending Bethel Lutheran Church in Auburn. Sylvia was very proud of her Finnish heritage and the Lutheran faith. She loved watching her family grow, spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sylvia was a member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed reading, puzzles, crocheting, and playing the piano. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, Oct. 16th. at 11:30 a.m. in the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester.
