Subscription Update Obituary

    Sylvia C. (Badrigian) Hoogasian, 84, of Worcester, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2010 in her home.

    Sylvia's husband of 56 years, Edward A. Hoogasian, passed away in 2005. She is survived by her four children: Laurie A. Jeffery and her husband William and Marie Burison all of Worcester, Steven Hoogasian of Shrewsbury, Barbara Robidoux and her husband Philip of Hopkinton; a sister, Barbara Badrigian of Worcester; six grandchildren she adored: Steven Burison, Samantha, Nicole and Eddie Hoogasian, Max and Casey Robidoux; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother, Robert Badrigian, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of John and Happy (Kishdoian) Hoogasian. She graduated from South High School in 1944 and Worcester State Teachers College in 1948. She has lived here all her life.

    Sylvia co-founded with her husband and served as Secretary of Worcester Scale Company in 1948. She was also a teacher for the Auburn Elementary School System at Mary Stone School and later as a substitute teacher for the Worcester School System mostly at Mill Swan School.

    Sylvia was an active dedicated member of All Saints Episcopal Church. She served the church in many capacities including, President of the Church Rectory Search and Selection Committee, as a co-Deacon of the Lady Pastors Group, a member and Vice President of the Altar Guild and instructor of for the Junior Altar Guild. She served on several other church committees and volunteered to help at many of the church functions. Sylvia was an athletic standout in high school. During her senior year, she was captain of the Field Hockey Team and scored the winning goal for South High's City Championship during the 1940's. Sylvia was, most of all, a loving person who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her six grandchildren. Her fondest memories were of traveling with her husband on business trips across the world, and watching her grandchildren swim at her pool during the summers.

    Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Wednesday, January 5th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be celebrated Thursday, January 6th from the funeral home with a service at 10:00 am in All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving St., Worcester.

    The Hoogasian family would like to thank Sylvia's caregivers, especially Marta Szostek, for the care they gave to her during a difficult time.
