Stanley N. Elbe, Sr., 97, of Marlborough, passed away peacefully at his home on December 28, 2025.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Frank and Ellen E. (Nordgren) Elbe. For most of his life, Stan was a resident of Northborough and a graduate of Northborough High School, Class of 1946.
In 1951, he married Theresa (Giarrusso), with whom he shared a devoted marriage of sixty-nine years, until her passing in 2021. Also in 1951, Stan enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean War.
As a boy, he helped his father plant apple trees on their property creating Frank W. Elbe Apple Orchards. For most of his adult life, Stan was employed as a greenskeeper at Juniper Hills Golf Course where he worked over 40 years while simultaneously managing the apple orchard. Known for his exceptional work ethic and self-reliance, Stan skillfully constructed his own home while maintaining other full-time employment. Stan was a member of American Legion Post 234 in Northborough and was actively involved at the Northborough Senior Center.
Surviving Stanley are his three children: Stanley “Buck” Elbe, Jr., and his companion, Linda Ploof-Clarkin; James Elbe and his wife, Sabine; and Ellen Jones. He is also survived by two grandsons, Jacob Elbe and his partner Hannah Walden and Daniel Elbe and his wife, Amanda as well as five great-grandchildren, Rose, Stanley, Grace, Grant, and Charlotte. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert Elbe, Ray Elbe, and Henry Elbe.
Calling hours will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
