Subscription Update Obituary

     Singleton Smith, Jr., 71, of West Boylston, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 26, 2018, with his wife, Gunilla, and his nephew, Joseph Fairley by his side.

He was born on August 7, 1946 in Brooklyn, Mississippi, a son of Singleton and Maxine L. (Casey) Smith, Sr., and had lived in Worcester for 20 years before moving to West Boylston four years ago.

For 55 years, Singleton worked in the transportation and construction industry.  He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, watching New England sports teams especially the Bruins and Patriots, and spending time with his family and the grandkids.

He leaves his wife of 20 years, Gunilla R. (Willman) Smith; his children, Connie Elkins of Lucedale, MS and Bobby Ray Ware of Biloxi, MS; a step-son, Derek M. Mohamed and his wife, Nicole of Westborough; a sister, Yvonne F. Fairley of Lumberton, MS; his grandchildren, Bradley Derring, David Derring, Dalton Ware, Amanda Sonnier, and David, Isabelle and Zachary Mohamed; and 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephew and great nieces and nephews.

A brother, Theodore (Bilbo) Smith and a sister, Barbara A. Powell, predeceased him.

A special thanks to his hospice team, Renee Peckham, Donna Oliveri, Jill Jeffers and Beth Spillane-Flanagan, for their wonderful care.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Singleton’s family from 12 to 1 pm followed by a funeral service at 1 pm on Monday, July 30, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.  Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.  Donations in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame Hospice, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605.
