Subscription Update Obituary

   Shirley M. (Rankin) Wood, 77, passed away Friday, April 10 in UMass/Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side. Her husband, Edwin D. Wood, died in 1998.

   She leaves her children, Kevin Wood and his wife Paulette of Leicester, Susan Lapointe and her husband Bill of Southbridge, Mary Wood with whom she made her home, Mark Wood and his wife Marcie, and Tracy Daniels and her husband Delmore, all of Worcester, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. She was predeceased by her 11 brothers and sisters.

   Born in Worcester, daughter of William and Mary (Hammond) Rankin, she graduated from South High School, and City Hospital School of Nursing. Shirley was an R. N. at Worcester City Hospital, and later served as Director of Nurses at Mill Hill, The Odd Fellows, and Worcester Nursing Home. She was a member and past matron of Clement Chapter, and Packachoag Chapter, and a member of Stella Chapter O.E.S. She served as Grand Representative to Alabama from the Grand Chapter of Ma. from April 1996-98. She was Mom Advisor for Worcester Assembly International Order of Rainbow for Girls, and Grand Deputy to the Grand Assembly of Ma., IORG. Shirley was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, and served as secretary of the Church Sunday School with her husband.

   A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, April 14 in Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main St. Burial will be in Worcester Co. Memorial Park. Calling hours will be from 4-8 PM Monday, April 13 in CASWELL-KING FUNERAL HOME, 474 Grove St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carty Cupboard Food Pantry of Wesley United Methodist Church.
