Rose M. “Dolly” (Mandella) McMahon, 84, formerly of Dorset St, died peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2008, at St. Francis Home, with her daughters at her side. Her husband of 49 years, John J. McMahon, a Worcester Firefighter, died November 11, 1995. She leaves two daughters, Caron A. Mirick and her husband Stephen G. Mirick of Princeton, Maureen A. Galvin and her husband James M. Galvin of Worcester; five grandchildren, Adam M. Mirick of Greenwich, CT, Nicholas W. Mirick of Somerville, Sean M. Galvin of Stamford, CT, Ariannah B. Mirick of Philadelphia, PA, Patrick F. Galvin of Worcester; a brother-in-law, John Carlson of West Boylston; three sisters-in-law, Mary G. Prunier, Lillian T. Scavone and Claire McMahon and her husband Edward P. McMahon, all of Worcester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her sister, Dorothy M. McGuiness of Shrewsbury, predeceased her.

   She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Joseph P. and Amelia R. (CaraDonna) Mandella and was a life long resident of the city. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and the New England School of Accounting.

   Rose worked as a clerk at the Worcester Registry of Deeds for several years. She previously worked at Norton Company. She was a member of Christ the King Church and a former member of St. Bernard Church and its’ Rosary Sodality. She was a gifted pianist and enjoyed playing a wide range of music from the classics, to jazz, and the popular ballads of her generation. Rose loved spending time with her grandchildren and was exceptionally proud of all they have accomplished. She also loved gardening, especially tending to the annual bed surrounding her statue of St. Anthony, and attending the St Francis Novena over the years with her husband at St. John Church.

   The family would like to express their gratitude for the exceptional care, the respect and the many kindnesses shown to “Mum”, during her stay over the last seven years at St. Francis Home.

   There are no calling hours. Private services were held at the convenience of the family, followed by burial in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA. The family suggests donations in memory of Rose be made to St. Francis Home, 101 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01604.
