Roger L. Berard, 79, formerly of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, March 17 in Knollwood Nursing Home.

His wife, Ethel A. (Rantala) Berard, died in 1997. He leaves a son, Michael L. and his wife Dorothy B. Berard of Worcester, a daughter, Diane R. Orcutt of Shrewsbury, and 3 grandchildren. Born in Spencer, son of Louis A. and Cora M. (Sauvageau) Berard, he graduated from Assumption High School, and served in the Merchant Marine during WWII. He later served in the Army during the Korean War earning the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Combat Infantryman's Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal earning the rank of Sergeant. He worked for 34 years at Heald Machine Co. An extremely avid fisherman, he also enjoyed hunting, gardening, photography, coin collecting, and reading.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 20 from CASWELL-KING FUNERAL HOME, 474 Grove St. Worcester with a Mass at 10 am in Our Lady Of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester Co. Memorial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday, March 19.
