Robert E. Wallat, 73, a life-long resident of Auburn, died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bob is survived by a brother, Gordon L. Wallat of Worcester, his son, Jeffrey G. Wallat and his wife Carrie of Bedford, New Hampshire and their children, Paige, Zachary, Emma, Ryan and Addison, and a daughter Kimberly A. Root and her husband Joseph of Belvedere, California and their son Brody.

He was born May 25,1940 in Worcester and was the son of Erhardt L. and Ethel V (Anderson) Wallat and lived for a short time in Worcester before moving permanently to Auburn.

Bob worked as a restaurant employee for many years at the New Yorker Diner and later at the Ramada Inn before retiring in 1990. He loved animals, sports, being outdoors and all the venues and activities offered by the town of Auburn. He especially enjoyed his 25 year residency at the Stoneville Heights housing complex in Auburn and the understanding and compassion of all those associated with this fine facility.

Special gratitude is extended to Ms. Tippawan Burns, M.S., DDS Human Service Coordinator for her tireless advocacy on Bob’s behalf for many years, and to Horace Mann Educational Associates (HMEA), and to the Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all their exceptional care and comfort in Bob’s closing years.

There are no calling hours. His funeral will be held Wednesday, December 18th from Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster Street, Worcester MA. A private viewing for family and friends will be held that day in the chapel of Trinity Lutheran Church from 10:00am to 11:00am with a funeral service following immediately thereafter. Bob will be laid to rest at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton MA. The burial will be private and will immediately follow the funeral service.

Memorial contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute / Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West. 6th Floor, Brookline MA 02445.
