Robert E. Letendre, 80, of South St. died Sat., Nov. 17, 2012 in UMass Memorial Hospital University Campus after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Norma J. (Turrentine) Letendre; two sons, Alan A. Letendre and his wife Michelle of Spencer and Steven R. Letendre and his wife Jan of East Brookfield; three daughters, Barbara J. Devault and her husband Arthur of Spencer, Cindy L. Martinez and her husband Ray of Spencer and Cheryl L. Orne and her husband Robert of North Brookfield; four sisters, Pearl Mominee and Pauline Paradis both of Spencer and Mildred Lachambre and Joan Lusignan and her husband Roger, both of East Brookfield; nine grandchildren, Corey & Julie Devault, Ray M. Martinez, Renee Sophocles, Jordan & Emily Letendre, Ashley Istre, Jason Brown and Ryan Letendre; nine great-grandchildren, Sarah, Amber & Logan Decker, Cassandra & Michael Sophocles, Benjamin & Nolan Martinez and Anna & Isabel Istre, several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Chili. He was pre-deceased by five brothers, Donald, Norman, Paul, Milton & Wilrose Letendre and a sister, Rita Letendre.
Mr. Letendre was born in Spencer, son of Louis and Clara (Ledoux) Letendre. He worked as a mechanic for the Spencer Highway Department for 18 years retiring in 1994. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force. He was a life member of the Spencer Fish & Game, a member of the National Rifle Association and the Spencer American Legion Post 138. He enjoyed harness racing with his brothers. He was an accomplished mechanic and enjoyed all types of cars. He loved family gatherings, dancing, roller skating and bowling. He was an avid cook.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 11:00 AM in J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:00-11:00 AM Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Spencer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 147, Spencer, MA 01562.
