Subscription Update Obituary

    Robert E. Handley, 77, of Holden formerly of Worcester, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011 with family by his side. Robert's wife of 34 years, Catherine M. (Lyons) Handley passed away a year ago. He is survived by his son, Robert S. Handley of Leicester; his step-son, Thomas Ohman and his wife Gayle of Worcester; his step-daughter, Catherine Peters and her husband Jonathan of Holden; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Cindy, Jamie Lynn, Thomas Jr., Jonathan P., Matthew, Scott and Eric; two great grandchildren, Dorian and Dante; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; A brother, Harold Handley Jr. pre deceased him. Robert was born in Worcester, son of Harold A. Handley, Sr. and Blanche (Derby) Handley. He graduated from Commerce High School, served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and has lived in Worcester before moving to Holden 25 years ago.

    Robert was Vice President of Sales at the Worcester Moving & Storage Company for over 26 years before retiring. Prior to that he worked for the Department of Corrections and was a truck driver for many years. Robert was once on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army and volunteered for the United Way. He was a member and past President of the Worcester Rotary Club, member and past President of the Worcester Executive Association and a member of the Exchange Club of Worcester. Bob was adventurous and fun-loving. He had a true zest for life. Most of all he cherished his family and all the moments he could spend with them.

    Funeral services will be held Friday, January 21st at 11 a.m in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in the Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. A period of visitation will be held from 10 a.m to 11 a.m prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 640 Main St., Worcester, MA 01608.
