Subscription Update Obituary

Robert C. Smith, 96, of Sterling, MA passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

He leaves his wife of 29 years, Ingrid (Konrad) Smith and two sons, Carl (Pat) of Perrysburg, OH, and Robert (Karen) of Grafton, MA. He also leaves four stepdaughters, Pamela Konrad, Karin (Charles) Brown, Kristina (Francis) Walsh, and Cynthia Konrad. Additionally, Bob leaves 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris (Bissonnette) in 1991, and two sisters, Freda LaCasse and Shirley Mascroft.

Bob was born and raised in Millbury, MA by his parents Carl and Frances (Flechsig) Smith. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served honorably during World War II. On completion of duty, he worked for Norton Company as a Customer Service Specialist for 38 years.

After retirement in 1986, Bob enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife, Ingrid and friends all over the USA and Europe. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing. He was a spectacular dancer and a very outgoing, social person with a broad circle of friends.

Bob was very proud of his volunteerism with The Boy Scouts. He was past Scoutmaster of Troop #41 and received numerous scouting awards including The Pelican Award and The Silver Beaver Award.

Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Parish where he served on the Church Council, and was past chairman of the Liturgy Committee.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be celebrated on Thursday, August 8th at 11:00 AM at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles-Sterling Funeral & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling.
