    Richard M. "Dick" Symonowicz, Sr., 81, of Auburn, died Thursday November 11, 2010 at Blaire House of Worcester after his battle with Alzheimer's disease.

    He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Delia M. (Monroe) Symonowicz; 2 daughters Julie A. Hanratty of Auburn, Camellia (Cammie) M. Symonowicz and her partner Monica Shumway of Middletown, CT; son Richard M. Symonowicz Jr. and his partner Carol Toscano of Oxford; 2 grandchildren, Ryan D. Hanratty of Worcester, Alicia N. Belanger and her husband Peter Belanger of Charlton; 2 great grandchildren, Connor and Samantha, along with many extended family members.

    Born in Worcester on July 27, 1929, he was the son of the late Michael Symonowicz and Camilla (Lukaszewicz) Symonowicz and lived most of his life in Auburn. He joined the US Navy at the age of 18 where he served 8 years prior to joining the US Coast Guard and retiring after 20 years of service to his country. He worked for many years for the Worcester Center Galleria as an HVAC technician before retiring in 1994. Richard was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Auburn. He was an active member for many years in veteran affairs with the honor guard and VFW Post of Oxford and the Chester Tuttle American Legion Post of Auburn. Dick had a special love for his many dogs over the years, his beloved New England Patriots, and truly enjoyed the time spent with family over the years.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn on Tuesday, November 16th from 4 to 7p.m. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 17 from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial with Military Honors will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. The Oxford VFW Memorial Honor will participate. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Tuesday, November 16 from 4 to 7p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
