Richard D. Anton, 66, of Auburn died Sunday in his home after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Charlene R. (Woodward) Anton, two sons; Steven R. Anton and his wife Christina, and Michael B. Anton and his wife Barbara, all of Webster, two granddaughters; Mackenzie Woll and Angelina Anton, he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his third grandchild. He also leaves his sister Dorothea Giza and her husband Stanley, of Phoenix, and his sister-in-law Barbara Anton of Orleans, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Rich is predeceased by his brother Thomas J. Anton.
Mr. Anton was born in Worcester; he was the son of the late Julius and Irene (Dupsha) Antenavicz. He was a graduate of Classical High School.
Rich was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, He served two tours of duty in the Vietnam war.
He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Anton worked at the former New England High Carbon Wire, Atlas Distributors and Verizon.
Rich enjoyed sports, fishing, music and grilling. He was an avid softball player; he played in several area leagues. He coached and managed teams in the Auburn Little League system, and coached North American Martyrs Basketball.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, October 3rd from 5-8 PM in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be held from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated at 10 AM Friday October 4th in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park.
