Richard A. Cove, Sr., 73, formerly of Sterling, passed away Tuesday, April 17th in the Nashoba Regional Hospital after an illness.
His wife of 36 years, Arlene J. (Sjoblad) Cove, passed away in 1992. He is survived by two sons, Richard A. Cove, Jr. and Michael J. Cove both of Sterling; a daughter, Caroline A. Duplease of Lancaster; his longtime companion Betty Usaforge of Townsend; four sisters, Barbara Brady of Charlton, Ann Walsh of Sterling, Kathleen Murphy and Margaret Wheeler both of Worcester; three brothers, Alfred Cove, Jr. of Sterling, John "Jack" and Robert Cove both of Worcester; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A brother, James and four sisters, Mary Jane Waterhouse, Shirley Wheeler, Helen Neville, and Patricia Rockwood predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester; his parents were Alfred J. Cove, Sr. and Mary (Pendergast) Cove. Richard was a U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran, earning four battle stars and the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in battle. Richard worked over 12 years for the ITT Supernant Company before retiring. He previously owned and operated a Canteen Truck "Dick's catering" many years.
Richard's funeral with Military Honors will be held Saturday, April 21st at 10:00 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours will be held Friday, April 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, 69 Grove Street, 01605.
