Randolph Allen, 89, of Worcester, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 in St. Mary Health Care Center.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, Orphelena "Lena" (Hancock) Allen; two nephews, Ivery Wells of Worcester and Walter Lee Wells of Winston Salem, NC and two nieces, Rosa Mae Kelley of Worcester and Josephine Gwynn of Winston Salem, NC. A sister, Rosetta Wells predeceased him.
He was born in Winston Salem, NC, the son of Louis and Mary (Holmes) Allen. Randolph was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of King David Lodge #7 F & AM where he served as the most worshipful master for six terms, a life member of the most worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, a life member of the Holy Royal Arch of Mason, a member of the Holy Sepulcher Consistory #17, past worthy patron of O.E.S., the Prince Hall Grand Chapter of O.E.S., Past Most Worthy Joshua of Sarah R. Hall Court #1, Heroines of Jericho, the African Lodge #459, John St. Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and President of the men's club. He worked for 34 years for New England Grocery after serving in the Army for three years where he was awarded the Bronze Star and received the Good Conduct Medal.
The funeral is Monday, August 16th with a service at Noon in John Street Baptist Church, 43 John Street, with a visitation period from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is directing arrangements.
