Paul William Senior, passed away peacefully among family members at UMass-Memorial Medical Center. His death came on August 2, after a brief illness. His wife of 48 years, Shirley E. (Hanscom) Senior, passed away in 2002.
Paul is survived by three sons, Stephen P. and his wife Nancy of Falmouth, Mark V. and his wife Barbara of Worcester, Paul W., Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Auburn and eight grandchildren, Jason, Kelley, Mark, Ryan, Kaitlin, Paul, Kristen, and Stephen. He also leaves a brother, Francis Senior of Worcester, and two sisters; Marjorie Braney of Oxford and Patricia Cahill of Centerville.
Paul was an outstanding athlete at St. John’s High School. He was captain of both basketball and baseball teams in his senior year. Also, as a senior, he was given the St. John’s "Student Athlete of the Year" award. Paul was a superb point guard, as well as an all-star catcher. He played semi-pro baseball in Worcester after serving in the Army and graduating from St. Anselm’s College.
Paul retired from his position as a supervisor at Killeen Machine Tool Co. in 1993 after 34 years. An avid golfer, Paul has been a member of Green Hill Municipal Golf Course for the past 35 years. He is also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He coached Little League baseball in the Joe Schwartz League for nine years. He loved his annual week at Hampton Beach with his grandchildren.
Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are Friday, August 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, August 5, from the funeral home with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County memorial Park, Paxton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to benefit the St. Anthony Shrine in care of the Sisters of Mercy, 101 Barry Road, Worcester 01609.
