Subscription Update Obituary

     Norma P. (Rokes) Markey, 82, passed peacefully away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 in St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by her family after a two year courageous battle with lung cancer.

     Norma was born in Framingham in 1928 to George M. and Alice (Bancroft) Rokes. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George W. Markey; a son, George F. Markey and his wife Mary Ellen of Worcester; two daughters, Deborah A. Ingalls and her husband James of Spencer and Shirley T. LeMay and her husband Michael of North Grafton; six grandchildren, Nicholas Markey, Katherine (Markey) Courchaine and her husband Roy, Andrew and Susan Ingalls and Joseph and Abigal LeMay.

     She treasured her family, especially time spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and fishing and was a certified field instructor for Massachusetts Fish and Wildlife where she shared her love of the outdoors and fishing with children. Norma was an avid gardener and took special pride in her flower gardens. She belonged to the Triple C Square Dance Club and worked for American Greeting Cards for several years.

     The funeral will be held Friday, October 22, from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting Hours are Thursday, October 21, from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society , 30 Speen St., Framingham, 01701.
