Norma L. (Waterhouse) Arnold, 71, passed away peacefully Monday, April 18, 2011, in Holden Nursing Home. Norma was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Vivian L. (Cooper) and Chester F. Waterhouse. She graduated from South High School as a Horace Mann scholar and Hahnemann School of Nursing. She also completed her Associate’s Degree in nursing at Assumption College, graduating with high honors. Norma was a charge nurse in the Telemetry Unit at Hahnemann Hospital before assuming her position as Nurse Manager at Worcester State Hospital from which she retired. She was a past member of Greendale People’s Church. Norma loved spending time with her family – especially with her grandchildren who were the light of her life. She found peace at Pemaquid Point, Maine where she would spend hours exploring the tidal pools and watching the surf crash on the rocky shore. She was a talented artist and had several paintings displayed in local galleries.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kim and John Dion of Jefferson, MA; son and daughter-in-law, James Arnold, Jr., and Lisa of Pawley’s Island, SC; brother and sister-in-law, David and Joan Waterhouse of Englewood FL; sister, Gloria Waterhouse of Worcester; and cousin, Kenneth Boudreau of Shrewsbury; 5 grandchildren, Katie and Molly Dion and Devin, Derek, and Dylan Arnold. She was predeceased by her sister, Sandra White.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Holden Nursing Home for their outstanding care and compassion every day, every shift.
The graveside service and committal of ashes will be held at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, June 21, at 1:00 p.m.
