Subscription Update Obituary

   Nancy M. (Alty) Adams, R.N., 59, of Bushy Lane, died Thursday, February 5, 2009 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

   Her husband of 30 years, John E. Adams, died in 2000. She leaves two sons, Jason E. Adams, with whom she lived and Joshua W. Adams of Hubbardston; two brothers, Curtis W. Alty, Jr. of Leominster and James S. Alty of Sterling; two sisters, Adrianna Alty of Jersey City, NJ and Dianna Onstott of Camp Hill, PA; and many nephews and nieces. She was born in Tacoma, Washington the daughter of Curtis W. and Doris I. (Hannah) Alty, Sr. and lived in Rutland for over 35 years.

   Nancy graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1967, Burbank Hospital School of Nursing in Fitchburg and from Assumption College in Worcester where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was a registered nurse and Director of Nursing at the Continuing Care Center in Hopedale and prior director at the Avery Manor in Needham. Previously, she worked at the Rutland Heights Hospital in Rutland and Hermitage Nursing Home in Worcester. She was one of the first volunteer EMT's for the Rutland Fire Department. She was an active volunteer with Cub Scout Pack 141 in Rutland and enjoyed gardening and reading.

   Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 8th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral service for Nancy will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 9th in the funeral home followed by burial in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boys Scouts of America, 19 Harvard St., Worcester, MA 01609.
