It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Myra G. Muir. Myra’s warmth, generosity, and humor touched the lives of all who knew her.

Myra was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, and raised in Oakham, Massachusetts, where she developed a deep love of nature, animals, and community.

Myra took great pride in her long and meaningful career as a nurse. After graduating from Wachusett Regional High School in 1967, she went on to earn her RN degree from Quinsigamond Community College and began her nursing journey at Holden Nursing Home. In 1974, she joined Massachusetts General Hospital, where she worked in the historic Bullfinch Building. In 1982, Myra continued her vocation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, devoting herself to oncology nursing in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. Throughout more than forty years of service, she brought skill, compassion, and comfort to countless patients and families, retiring in 2017.

In retirement, Myra devoted many wonderful hours to volunteering at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, a cause close to her heart and aligned with her lifelong love of animals.

Myra had an adventurous spirit and a deep love of travel. She visited all 50 U.S. states and explored destinations worldwide. One of her proudest travel accomplishments was hiking the Appalachian Trail in 1989. She also found peace and joy in nature, spending time outdoors whenever she could.

At home, Myra cherished the companionship of her golden retrievers, who were as dear to her as family and friends. She loved nothing more than being surrounded by loved ones and enjoying the comfort of her home.

She leaves behind her devoted sisters, Linda G. Genest and Sheila B. Muir, and her loving brothers, Olen C. Muir and William J. Muir, as well as her sisters-in-law, Sheila Muir and Jane Muir. Myra was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. Throughout her life, neighbors, former patients and their families, and countless coworkers became part of her extended family, all touched by her kindness and care.

Especially dear to Myra were her friends Lenore Levine, her husband Jimmy Donnelly, and Cathleen Poliquin, fellow nurses who have been lifelong friends, sharing countless moments of joy, laughter, and companionship. She also leaves her beloved dog, Charlie, her faithful companion and source of comfort and joy.

Myra was predeceased by her parents, William J. and Betty R. Muir, and her brother-in-law, Albert “Butch” A. Genest.

Myra will be remembered for her caring spirit, her devotion to nursing, her adventurous love of travel, and her way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. Her legacy of compassion and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Myra’s memory to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.

A celebration of Myra’s life will be held at Café Escadrille, 26 Cambridge Street, Burlington, MA 01803, on Friday, October 10, from 2:00 to 4:30 PM. Please feel free to join us for the entire celebration or at a time that is most convenient for you. Burial will be private.
