Subscription Update Obituary

Mildred Viola (Allen) Carlson, 90, of Briarwood Circle, Worcester, formerly of Princeton, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester after an illness.

Her husband of 42 years, Verner E. Carlson, passed away in 1988. She is survived by her son, Gary A. Carlson of Madison, Mississippi, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Eric Allen, and two sisters, Gladys and Ethel Allen. She was born on July 14, 1921 in Worcester, the daughter of Ragner E. and Ida K. (Johnson) Allen and lived in Princeton for many years before moving to Worcester.

Mildred graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and attended night classes at the Fairfield Office School. She worked for the former Guaranty Bank and Trust as a branch assistant for 24 years, retiring in 1983. Previously, she worked five years at Norton Company and five years at Paul Revere Insurance Company. She was a lifelong member of the Salem Covenant Church, singing in many groups including its choir. She served as chairman of the Stewardship and Finance Commission and was a member of the Covenant Women and chairman of the former Alert Circle, Second District Covenant Women and treasurer of the East Coast Covenant Women.

The funeral service for Mildred will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 13th, in the Salem Covenant Church, 215 East Mountain Street, Worcester 01606. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salem Covenant Church. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, is assisting the family with arrangements.
