Maureen B. (Hughes) Reynolds, 91, passed away peacefully in Worcester on October 2, 2025, with her loving family by her side, following a period of declining health.
Maureen was born in Clinton, MA, to Mary Ellen (Connor) and Patrick Hughes. Following a year of correspondence between her and Raymond Reynolds, who was serving in the U.S. Army in Korea, they married in 1953 and started a family in Worcester, where they remained for all of their years. After all of her children were in school, she began a 48-year career at Stop & Shop in Worcester and Westborough. She had a goal of making 50 years at Stop & Shop, only to be interrupted by the COVID epidemic. Her customers were very loyal, often waiting in longer lines to see her. On special occasions, they would be greeted by a witch in full costume on Halloween or a red-bearded leprechaun on St. Patrick’s Day.
Maureen leaves her sons James and wife Dayle, John and wife Lynne, Thomas and wife Elizabeth, and daughters Patricia Lahair and husband Robert, and Carol Berard and husband Raymond; grandchildren James and wife Meghan, David and wife Laura, Kelly and husband Jayson, Brian and wife Deirdre, Mary Katherine and husband Henry, Michael, Christina and husband Gregory, Savannah and husband Jacob, Lily, and Thomas; great-grandchildren Brady, Brooklynn, Logan, Declan, Kaylee, Connor, Rorey, Erin, Quinn, Millie, and Eliana; brother-in-law Leonard Reynolds and sister-in-law Marcia Reynolds; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Maureen was totally dedicated to her family. She was known for her strength, loyalty, kindness and generosity. She always had time, advice and humor to share with her family and friends. She organized large, extended family backyard parties, and enjoyed summer vacations in Hampton Beach and York Beach. Proud of her Irish heritage, she had many stories to tell of “the old country”, a place she visited many times to see aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was a regular participant in the Worcester Irish Parade. She passed her love of Ireland to her children and grandchildren.
Maureen was predeceased by Raymond, her beloved husband of 63 years, her parents Mary Ellen and Patrick Hughes, and her siblings Patricia (Robert) Bell, Patrick, John (Gretta), and James Hughes.
The family wishes to thank the outstanding staff of the Christopher House and Christopher Heights for their compassionate care and kindness.
