Subscription Update Obituary

     Mary L. (Shiraka) Marotta, 92, of 20 Linden St., Oxford, died Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Lanessa Extended Care Center in Webster after a short illness.
    
Her husband of 39 years, Salvatore Marotta, died in 1973. She leaves a son, Theodore J. and his wife Gail J. Marotta of Oxford with whom she lived; five grandchildren, Richard Brodeur of Worcester, Judith Brodeur of W.Tisbury, Pamela and her husband Tom Smith of Charlton, Michelle and her husband Michael Heirtzler of Shrewsbury, and Sharon and her husband Joseph Perno of Worcester; 10 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter Beverly Brodeur Earley in 2002, three brothers John, Joseph and Vincent Shiraka, and four sisters Tophelia DiPasquale, Anna Powers, Veronica Cassamassa and Edith Tremblay.
    
Mrs. Marotta was a stitcher at H.H.Brown Shoe Co. in Worcester where she worked for 40 years, before retiring in 1980. She later volunteered at Green Island in Worcester, where she served meals to the elderly for 20 years. She was a member of the Polish American Club in Worcester. She loved linedancing and competed in several area dance competitions. She loved knitting, walking on beaches, collecting stones and seashells on Martha's Vineyard. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of John and Konstanta (Kazalavich) Shiraka.
    
The funeral will be held Thursday, Sept. 20 from the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to V.N.A.
