Subscription Update Obituary

    Mary Agnes (Buckley) Bigwood passed away on January 31, 2012 following a brief illness in the Virginia Hospital Center surrounded by members of her family.
    Mary is survived by her husband of 60 years, David Bigwood of Reston Virgina, formerly of Worcester. Mary leaves two brothers, David Buckley and his wife Delores of Worcester, and Paul Buckley and his wife Jean of Hamilton Massachusetts. Mary leaves behind four children, a son, David Bigwood and his wife Cora of League City Texas; a daughter, Mary Pina and her husband David of Reston Virginia; a son, Joel Bigwood and his wife Sandra of Palm Springs California, and a son, John Thomas Bigwood and his wife Johanna Evans of Worcester. Mary leaves her 4 grandchildren: granddaughter, Cassandra Pace and her husband Justin Bantuelle of Houston Texas, granddaughter, Elizabeth Pina and her husband Jared Draughon of Reston Virginia, grandson, David Pina JR of Americus Georgia, and grandson, Evan Buckley Bigwood of Worcester. Mary was predeceased by 7 siblings: Gertrude (Buckley) Degnan, Joseph Buckley, Phillip Buckley, Raymond Buckley, John Buckley, Robert Buckley, and William Buckley. She also leaves many nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.
     Mary was born in Worcester on March 15th 1920 to John T. and Jennie F. Courtney Buckley. Mary was a graduate of Commerce High School and the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1942. She touched the lives of many with her caring and dedicated nursing skills.
She was fond of swimming and gardening and mostly loved spending time with her family. “Nana” will be heartily missed.
     Mary was a long time member of Blessed Sacrament Church, and of St Peters Church in her early life.
     A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, 551 Pleasant St., followed by a burial at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester State Foundation / Worcester City Hospital Nursing Scholarship, attn: Marion Cattaccio, 486 Chandler St., Worcester, MA 01602.
