Subscription Update Obituary

   Maria E. (DeJesus) Oliveras, 82, of Sterling Street, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, in UMass hospital, with her loving children at her side. Her husband, Enrique Oliveras, pre-deceased her in 1990.

   She leaves a son, Henry Oliveras, Jr. of Arlington; two daughters: Esperanza “Hope” Oliveras-Gualdarrama, and Ariadna Alston, both of Worcester; three sisters: Helena Quirindongo in Puerto Rico, Marta DeJesus of Philadelphia, and Margarita Claudio of New York City; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A daughter, Angelita Oliveras, pre-deceased her; as did three brothers: Eleuterio, Lucas, and Pedro. She was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Primativo and Monserrate (Santiago) DeJesus. Mrs. Oliveras graduated from Caguas High School, and from Lehman College in New York. She moved here in 1986, having lived in New York City for many years.

   Mrs. Oliveras worked for many years as a teacher in the New York City School Department, before retiring in 1986. She was a member of Saint Peter’s Church, where she belonged to the Cursillo Group, and was a Eucharistic Minister, and a Catechist. She also was a member of the New York City Teacher’s Association.
