Harriet L. (Evans) Mongeon, 82, of Holden, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 under the loving care of her family and the staff at Knollwood Nursing Center. Born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, Harriet was the daughter of the late Albert and Annie (Millington) Evans and lived over 50 years in Holden.
Harriet is survived by her two daughters, Leslye A. Warner and her husband, William of Holden and Sally A. Nowicki and her husband, Michael of Barre; five grandchildren, Michael Jacobs and his wife, April, Karl Warner and his wife, Nancy, Ashley A. Warner-Zander and her husband, Jeffrey, and twins, Mitchel and Shannon Nowicki; three great-grandchildren, Mason and Michaela Jacobs and Holden Warner; nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her daughter, Sherrill A. Jacobs; a sister, Dorothy Butler; a brother, Albert E. Evans and her cat and best companion, “Cleo.”
Harriet was a proud charter member and chaplain of the Auburn Order of Rainbow Assembly for Girls. She was a member of the former Wachusett Chapter 131, Order of Eastern Star in Holden. She had a fine appreciation for music and sang with the Worcester Oratorio Society. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Harriet was a longtime member of St. Matthews Church in Worcester. She will be missed by the many friends she made throughout her life particularly at the Holden Senior Center. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren who she loved very much. She will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Harriet’s family from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a funeral service honoring her life at 10 a.m. The Rev. Nancy Strong will be officiating. Interment will be at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers. memorial donations may be made to MSPCA, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130
