Mabel Viola (Sparrow) Modig passed away April 22nd. She was the wife of Raymond Modig who predeceased her in 2007. They had been married 70 years. Mabel was the daughter of the late Arthur Grover and Florence E. (Laundry) Sparrow. She was raised in Worcester moving to Millbury at a very young age till the 9th grade when she started working at The Bell Company in Worcester as a Fabric Inspector till she married and became a Homemaker.
Mabel is survived by her two sons and their wives, Wayne R. and Judith Modig of Millbury and Brian R. and Jeanne Modig also of Millbury. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Mabel was a charter member of the Raymond Memorial Baptist Church in East Millbury. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting. She took pride in her hand made sewed potholders and clothes for clothespin dolls. Mabel also collected elephant figurines and fashionable hats.
Her family extends a special word of thanks to the Nurses and staff of the Lifecare Center of Auburn for their compassion and assistance during her stay. In Mabel's words, "They take extraordinary good care of me."
There will be a funeral service held for Mabel Monday April 27th at 10:00 a.m at the Robert C. Roney Funeral Home, North Chapel, 152 Worcester St, North Grafton, MA. The public is invited to visit with her family that morning from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Mabel will then be taken to Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Mabel's family request that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her name to the "Activities Fund" at the Lifecare Center of Auburn, 14 Masonic Circle, Auburn, MA 01501.
