Leonard T. “Lenny” Armstrong, 72, most recently of East Falmouth, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully in his home with his loving family.
He is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of twelve years, Elizabeth H. (Kriff) Joyce; his loving daughter Ashley D’Alessandro and her partner, Robert Silva; two step-children, Ryan Joyce and wife Erica, Lindsay Joyce and her partner, Kevin Laverty; four adoring grandchildren, Karoline, Henry, Victoria and Sullivan; also survived by his siblings: Deborah R. (Armstrong) Howarth, husband Richard, Maureen M. (Gauthier) Levasseur, late husband Andrew, Nancy C. (Gauthier) Turner, late husband Charles, Leona M. (Gauthier) Saucier, late husband Homer, Lorraine M. (Gauthier) Gould, late husband Clarence; and several nieces and nephews, as well as many close and longtime friends. He is predeceased by his parents Thomas L. and Doris M. (Vigneault) Armstrong and brother, Robert L. Armstrong.
Lenny, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was born in Worcester. He grew up in Great Brook Valley, eventually moving to Shrewsbury where he graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1972. At 19, he began working at the Jamesbury Corporation (now Valmet) starting on the assembly line. He advanced through numerous positions within the company while attending night classes at UMASS Lowell. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering in 1993. Lenny designed and held several patents during his extensive 47-year career as a Principal Mechanical Engineer at Jamesbury where he retired in 2019.
He was a gifted handyman who could fix just about anything and was often found tinkering at his workbench. If something was broken, Lenny had the tool to repair it — and if he didn’t, he’d invent one. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his love for children and pets, and especially his devotion to his beloved dog, Koko.
The one constant in Lenny’s life was his love for golf. A longtime member of several leagues, including his long affiliation with the Herbies Golf League, he could be found, even in the rain and colder months, on the course with friends. Though he never hit a ball into the woods, he would often come back with a collection of his findings as keepsakes from his many outings. Lenny was also an accomplished nature photographer from a young age. In his retirement, he became an avid wildlife photographer on Cape Cod.
Lenny enjoyed being with his family and friends, he had a wonderful sense of humor; and he will be missed tremendously by all whom he knew.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Falmouth Dogs (https://www.friendsoffalmouthdogs.org/).
