Leona (Menoche) Stevens Wray Lane of Dover, New Hampshire and Summerdale Alabama passed away Saturday, March 10th at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Beth and David Clark of Auburn, MA. She formerly lived in Grafton and later Wells, Maine before moving to Dover 7 years ago. She wintered in Alabama for the past several years. Born August 28, 1918 in Charlton, MA she was the only child of Emma (Cormier) and Alphonse Menoche.
She graduated from Charlton High School and the Wilfred Beauty Academy. A professional hairdresser for many years, Mrs.Wray- Lane had her own beauty shop for many years in Leicester and later was the staff hairdresser at Washburn House, Worcester, MA. She was a former member of Grafton Women’s Club and later was active in and served as president of the Maine State Women’s Club. She was a Lioness and along with her husband, Carl, Leona volunteered at York Hospital. She made holiday tray favors for all the patients until the day she passed away. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth, wife of David Clark of Auburn, MA and Susan, wife of David Sommers of Medford, NJ, and her son Wesley Stevens and his wife Judy of Charlton. Lee was blessed with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Carlyle O. Wray in 1993 and last week suffered the loss of her husband of seven years, Frederick W. Lane of Dover, NH.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, March 13th from 6-8pm in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn, MA Her funeral will be held on Wednesday March 14th with a service at 10:30AM in First Congregational Church of Auburn, 128 Central Street, Auburn. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA. In liew of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UMASS Memorial Foundation Hospice Program, P.O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01613-9938 Or to the FIrst Congregational Church of Auburn Sanctuary Renovation Fund, 128 Central St. Auburn, MA 01501.
