Subscription Update Obituary

Leon M. Sandman, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 27th in UMass Hospital after a brief illness. His wife, Barbara (Stearns) Sandman, died in 2008.

He leaves three sons: Alan Sandman and his wife Laurel, Richard Sandman and his wife Gail, and Paul Sandman; a daughter, Andrea wife of Bruce Zimmerman; two step daughters: Pamela wife of Mike Doherty and Audrey Reipold; two step grandchildren: Peter and Jessica Doherty; a nephew, Howard Verstein and a niece, Elaine Bloomfield and two close family friends: Ernie Lawrence and Nancy Germain. His sister, Bella Verstein, died in 2002.

He was born in Worcester, the son of Hyman and Rose (Cohen) Sandman and attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII. He owned many business’s including The Furniture Loft in Auburn. He was an entrepreneur and financier and was still working at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Aleppo Shriners Lodge in Wilmington and was a 32nd degree Mason At Harmony Lodge A.F. & A.M.

The GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 1 PM on Friday, December 30th in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Memorial observance will be announced.
