Subscription Update Obituary

Leo F. Jones, 94, formerly of Holden, died peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2011 under the loving care of his family and the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester. Mr. Jones was born in Worcester on July 30, 1917, the son of Leo F. and Florence (Hope) Jones, and lived in Holden before returning to Worcester in 2008.

Mr. Jones was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served as a Radio Repairman and Radio Repair Instructor. He graduated from South High School in Worcester and later the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, OK. Mr. Jones built a career working for the FAA as an Electronics Technician. He was a member of Saint George’s Church in Worcester. Mr. Jones also held a job as an Announcer on local Worcester radio stations such as WAAB and WTAG. He was a life-long member of the Central Massachusetts Amateur Radio Association.

His wife of 64 years, Mary B. (Breen) Jones, died in 2009. Mr. Jones is survived by a son, William F. Jones and his wife Barbara of Martha’s Vineyard; three daughters, Kathleen M. Turner and her husband Dennis of Dayton, OH, Susan A. Valiga of Philadelphia, PA, and Terese M. Webb and her husband John of Lawrenceburg, KY; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held in the Chapel of Notre Dame du Lac at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend calling hours from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2011 in the Miles Funeral Home 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a graveside service to be held at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Notre Dame du Lac Long Term Care Center, Sunshine Club Fund, 559 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
