Sargent "Bud" Clifford, 60, of Beech Street died Thursday in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after he was stricken ill April 1 in his home.

He leaves his wife, Lillian J. (Goodney) Clifford; two sons, Gary Clifford of Manchester, N.H., and Dale Clifford of Oxford; a daughter, Tammy Clifford of Oxford; his mother, Gladys (Loomer) Clifford Tainter of Worcester; two sisters, Ardeth Tainter of Shrewsbury and Shirley Kelley of Northboro; a grandson; nephews and nieces. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford observed their 38th wedding anniversary in February. He was born in Worcester, son of Charles H. Clifford, and lived 30 years in Shrewsbury and 30 years here.

He graduated from the former Major Beal High School in Shrewsbury.

Mr. Clifford was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving as a staff sergeant with Headquarters Squadron, 307th Bomb Wing, Strategic Air Command, in Korea. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the 152nd Tactical Control Group in Germany.

Mr. Clifford was an office manager at Ken Jones Tire Co. in Worcester, where he worked for 22 years.

Mr. Clifford was a trustee and former deacon of First Congregational Church. He sang in its choir and was a church bell ringer. Mr. Clifford was a life member, chaplain and past master of Oxford Lodge of Masons, past district deputy of the 20th Lodge of Masons in Blackstone. He was a member of the Past District Deputy Grand Masters Association of Massachusetts. He was past patron of Clara Barton Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Grand Cross of Color, Order of the Rainbow. He was a 25-year member of the Shrewsbury Grange.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in First Congregational Church, Main Street. The Rev. Kendall H. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours at Lullmann-Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., are 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Members of Oxford Lodge of Masons will meet there at 6 p.m. tomorrow to conduct a Masonic service. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
