Carl W. Arlin, 94, of Gardner, died peacefully at home Wednesday September 1, 2010 after being stricken ill.

Carl was born in Worcester December 30, 1915, and lived in Palmer and Rutland for many years before moving to Gardner 16 years ago. His beloved wife, Tyyne M. (Puhakka) Arlin, died May 16, 2009.

Carl was employed with U.S. Steel for over 25 years. He worked as a wire drawer, and later as a mason for the former Rutland Heights Hospital. Carl loved to be outside. He had a true passion for gardening. While living in Rutland he had a spectacular vegetable garden. When he moved to Gardner he turned his attention to flowers, and again was very successful. Carl also enjoyed fly fishing and watching the Red Sox.

Carl will be sadly missed by 4 daughters; Shirley I. Robins of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Sally M. Peters of MiWuk, CA, Bette E. O'Coin of Leicester, and Gail V. Mann of Paxton. 7 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Carl was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Pentinnen, and Ellen Arlin.

Relatives and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Carls life by gathering for a graveside service in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton on Wednesday September 8, 2010 at 10AM. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in Carl's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1145 Alexandria, VA 22312.
