Julia M. (Reardon) Carrigan, 81, died peacefully on February 12, 2021 at Dodge Park Nursing Home, Worcester. Julie was born in Worcester, the daughter of M. Leo and Eva M. (Booth) Reardon, and enjoyed growing up in a large extended family.
Julie graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1957. In 1961, she married Kenneth Carrigan at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, and they enjoyed 57 years together until his death in 2018. Their daughter, Teresa Marie brought them joy and grandchildren. Her death in 2017 broke their hearts.
Julie loved being a full time Mom, but when Teresa went to school, Julie went to school, working with children in the Title 1 program at Oxford St. and Millbury St. schools. She enjoyed being a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and participating in activities at Sacred Heart – St. Catherine of Sweden Parish. Volunteer work in the South Worcester neighborhood led to more involvement and commitment, and she was a vital part of the committee who founded the South Worcester Neighborhood Center, where eventually she served for more than 25 years as the right hand of Chairman and Director, Ronald Charette. Together, they poured their hearts and their energy into making their part of the world a better place. Over the years, Julie was given the Key to the City by three different mayors of Worcester.
Julie leaves her sister Patricia Reardon of Worcester; her brother Martin and his wife Anne of Jensen Beach, FL.; a granddaughter Angela Espinosa of Hackettstown, NJ; two grandsons, Christopher and Anthony Espinosa of Tennessee; her son-in-law Larry Espinosa and his wife Karen; nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Teresa M. Espinosa, her sister Jane Kane and her husband Michael and their son Michael, and her sister-in-law Mary (Botiska) Reardon.
Always a generous giver, Julie’s good deeds go with her to the Anatomical Gift Department at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony’s Food Pantry at Sacred Heart – St. Catherine of Sweden Parish, 596 Cambridge St., Worcester 01610. Kindly remember Julie by doing a special act of kindness in her memory.
The Carrigan/Reardon family is deeply grateful to everyone at Oasis and Dodge Park Rest Home for the care, caring and love that was shown Julie during the past two years.
