Subscription Update Obituary

    Joseph W. Picard, 62, of Village Way and formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in Saint Vincent Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer.

    He leaves his beloved wife of 30 years, Jeanne C. (Girouard) Clinton Picard; his mother, Mabel V. (Hall) Picard a resident at Holden Nursing Home; a son, James R. Clinton of Paxton; two daughters, Laura J. Laliberte of Worcester and Susan M. Champoux and her husband Marc of Paxton; two sisters, Jeanne Eliott and her husband Francis of Flagler Beach, Florida and Suzanne M. Medine and her husband Charles of Holden; four grandchildren, Jonea, Stephen, Stephanie, and Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Damien and Gianna; and several nieces and nephews; a cherished aunt, Maurine Fassett of Holden and his lifelong friend, Ray Becker and his wife Mary of Rutland.

    Joe was born and raised in Worcester, the son of the late William J. Picard who passed away in 1976. He was a graduate of North High School and has lived in Rutland for the last seven years. He worked for the City of Worcester, D.P.W. and Sanitation Dept. for 32 years, retiring as the supervisor in 2002.

    He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland and served on the Town Finance Committee for several years. He enjoyed driving his 1954 Ford F 100, attending antique car shows, spending time with his family and friends and vacationing for many years in Wells, Maine.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 26th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral for Joe will be held on Saturday, February 27th, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 290 Main St., Rutland. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society , 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
