Subscription Update Obituary

   Joseph G. Turgeon, 74, of Dara Lane, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston.

   He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie A. (Langevin) Turgeon; five sons, Joseph G. Turgeon, Jr. of Connecticut, James J. Turgeon and his wife Cheryl of Worcester, Brian T. Joyce and his wife Linda of Worcester, William S. Turgeon and his wife Pennie of Holden and Jeffrey T. Turgeon and his wife Kimberly of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Debra M. Joyce and her fiancé Michael Anderson of Worcester; a brother, Raymond P. Turgeon of Worcester; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a niece and several nephews. A sister, Alice Vizzo and a grandson, Matthew A. Turgeon, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, the son of Joseph L. and Armandine (Carrier) Turgeon and lived all his life in Worcester.

   Joseph graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester, and worked for Carl Gordon Industry for 31 years retiring in 1989. He later worked 10 years for Benjamin Electric Co. in Worcester and Dunegrass Golf Club in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War and served aboard the USS Prichett (DD 561). He was a member of Christ the King Church and a former member of St. Joseph's Church both in Worcester. He was also a member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club where he sang choir, the Central Massachusetts Baseball Umpires Association and was a long time Umpire-in-Chief of West Side Babe Ruth Baseball League. He spent many years summering at Powder Horn Family Resort in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and after his retirement wintered in Las Vegas, Nevada.

   The family would like to thank the Jewish health care 4th floor staff for their wonderful care of Joseph.

   Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 15th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral for Joseph will be held on Monday, March 16th, from the funeral home with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Side Babe Ruth Baseball League, c/o Greg Halligan, 929 Pleasant St., Worcester, MA 01602, or the Greendale Retired Men's Club, 75 Shore Drive, Worcester, MA 01605.
