Subscription Update Obituary

    Jose A. Rosabal, 103, died Friday, January 8th, 2010 at UMass Memorial Hospital.

    Jose was born in Cuba on November 28, 1906, the son of Jose and Gregoria Rosabal. He was taken as a political prisoner and spent 18 years in prison for fighting to bring democracy to the Cuban people. Jose was a strong believer in democracy and very family oriented. He moved to the United States in March of 1980 to Worcester where he had resided for 30 years. He was an active volunteer with the Diocese of Worcester working to organize a Cuban Refugee Community. He enjoyed staying active by taking long walks, working in the family garden and helping around in the community. He was very well known amongst the Cuban- American community for his strong beliefs and active role in Cuban politics.

    He leaves a son, Jose Rosabal, Jr. of Orlando, Fl; four daughters, Angela, Fidelina, Elba and Gladys Rosabal, all of Worcester; 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by one sister and one brother.

    Calling hours are Monday, January 11 from 6-8PM at CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street. Burial will be held on Tuesday at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA.
