John Zelenak, 73, of 409 Greenwood St., a longtime trailer-sales executive and private pilot, died Thursday in Providence Care Center, Worcester, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Delores F. (van Twuyver) Zelenak; two sons, William J. and Mark J. Zelenak; a daughter, Cynthia A. Agbey, all of Millbury; five sisters, Helen Cramer, Betty Zajac, Margie Boozan, Evelyn Breza and Dorothy Cartwright, all of Trenton, N.J.; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; nephews and nieces. A son, John Zelenak Jr. of Millbury, died in 1985. He was born and raised in Trenton, son of John and Ethel (Mitzak) Zelenak. He lived nine years in Worcester and 30 years here.

Mr. Zelenak was the owner and president of three companies – Worcester Trailer Sales Inc. in Worcester, Pleasant View Trailer Sales Inc. and J.Z. Enterprises Inc., both in Auburn – for 34 years. He was previously a millwright at Rand & Whitney Container Corp. and at the former Dowd Box Co., both in Worcester.

Mr. Zelenak was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. He was a decorated Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian-Pacific theater, including five invasions and 98 air raids. An avid pilot, he started flying airplanes at age 16. He held single-engine and multi-engine pilots’ licenses for more than 50 years.

The funeral will be held Monday from Turgeon Funeral Home, 64 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 14 Waters St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
