Subscription Update Obituary

    John J. Winsky, 86, of Oxford, died Monday, August 31, at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Marie C. (Gagne) Winsky; four sons: David J. Winsky, John M. Winsky and James C. Winsky, all of Oxford, and Michael J. Winsky of Charlton; six grandchildren: Rhaya, Bryce, Brittany, John, Jake and Christina; a brother, Anthony Winsky of Grafton; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a brother and seven sisters.

    He was born in Brookfield and raised in Oakham, the son of Martin and Domicella (Zegar) Winsky. He moved to Oxford in 1940. He graduated from Oxford High School on June 17, 1942, and attended New England Technical Institute in Worcester. He was a decorated Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. He was awarded a Silver Star and seven Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Oxford American Legion Post #58. Mr. Winsky was once a welder at Wyman-Gordon in Worcester. He owned and operated the Winsky Farm, which he took over from his parents in 1946. He was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica in Webster.

    The funeral will be held Thursday, September 3, at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Donations in his name may be made to Allegiance Hospice, 415 Boston Turnpike Road, Suite 303, Shrewsbury, MA 01545. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster.
