John J. Ingalls, 90, of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at the Jewish Health Center after suffering a stroke. The past four years he made his home at the Eisenberg Assisted Living Facility. Prior to moving there, he lived in Auburn and Leicester for many years before moving to Port Charlotte, Florida for his retirement years.

He was born in Sherman, Maine, the son of James and Laura (Buzzell) Ingalls. He attended Sherman High School, graduating with honors. Prior to the start of World War II, he worked in the shipyards in South Portland, ME. In 1944 he entered the Army and served as a sharpshooter overseas. While fighting south of the Battle of the Bulge, he was wounded in battle by enemy gunfire, earning him the Purple Heart. Following the war, he moved to Worcester County, where he worked as a foreman at New England High Carbon Wire, retiring in 1978.

He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Ruth (Bergstrom) Ingalls, as well as by his seven siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Anita Bishop of Bellevue, Nebraska and by his son, Doug Ingalls of Rochdale, MA.
