Subscription Update Obituary

     John E. Carrigan, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital.

     He leaves his wife of 61 years, Barbara L. (Martin) Carrigan; three children, Edward J. Carrigan and his wife Norine of Worcester, Thomas J. Carrigan, Sr. and his wife Susan of Athol and Joyce M. Powers and husband Jerry of Paxton; two brothers, Francis and Franklin Carrigan and a sister, Jane Williams; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers.

     John was born in Worcester the son of Joseph and Agnes (Anderson) Carrigan. He graduated from St. Stephen’s High School and the New England School of Accounting. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy. Mr. Carrigan was a firefighter for the City of Worcester for 34 years retiring in 1986 from Ladder 5 on Providence St. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church and the Grafton Hill American Legion Post #323. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.

     John’s funeral will be held on Saturday, March 12 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton St. Interment will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting hours will be on Friday, March 11 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Susan G.
