John A. Smith, 50, passed away May 7, 2014 after an illness. He is survived by his children, Alicia Grossi and her husband Christopher, and Shayna Smith, his sisters Carol A. Sargentelli, Janet M. Smith and her companion Harry Peters, Joan E. Going, Paula J. Army and her husband Bernard, 3 grandchildren, stepchildren, nieces and nephews, including his nephew Chris Smith who was a brother to him. His brother Joseph Smith, Jr. predeceased him.

John was born August 7, 1963 in Worcester, son of the late Jane (Stencel) and Joseph Smith, Sr. He grew up in Grafton and graduated from Grafton High School. John was a proud member of United Steelworkers Union. As a welder at O.S. Walker for more than 25 years, he worked hard to provide for his family. Those who knew John will recall his love for the beaches on Cape Cod, fishing, camping with his family, traveling, surrounding himself with family and friends and for a long time, his beloved yellow lab “Mia”. In lieu of flowers his family requests memorial donations to The Liberty Church 5 Chestnut St. Worcester, MA 01609.

All are invited to gather with John’s family and friends Monday May 12th 9:30 am-11:00 am at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA followed by a funeral service at 11:00am in the funeral home. He will then be laid to rest at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
