John A.Collins;75,of 29 Dawson Road,a retired machinist,died Monday while vacationing in Palate,Fla.His wife,Florence C.(Raferty)Collins died in 1989.He leaves three sons,John M.Collins of Shrewsbury,Paul T.Collins of Worcester,and Steven E.Collins of Northboro;a daughter,Teresa F.Collette of Worcester;a brother,James L.Collins of Coquille,Ore;a sister,Agnes M.Kelley of Worcester;seven grandchildren;two great-grandchildren;nieces and nephews.He was born in Franklin,N.H;son of John B.and Agnes L.(Sullivan)Collins and lived here most of his life.He graduated from North High School and Worcester Junior College and earned an engineering degree from WPI.He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II,serving as a bombardier in Europe and earning a Distinguished Flying Cross.He also served 38 years in the Air Force Reserve,retiring as a colonel. Mr.Collins was a machinist for Crompton & Knowles Corp.for 40 years,retiring in 1980.He then owned and operated J.A.C.Enterprises Machine Shop for several years. He was a member of Saint Andrew The Apostle Church and its Men’s Club.He was a member and former president of the World War II Veterans Club.an avid sportsman,he enjoyed hunting,fishing and golf,and he was the first hockey coach at St.Peter’s High School. The Funeral will be held Friday from the Fay Brothers Funeral Home,9 Hammond St;with a Mass at 10 a.m.in St.Andrew the Apostle Church,5 Spaulding St,Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park,Paxton.Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m.tomorrow at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers,memorial contributions may be made to St.Andrew the Apostle Church,5 Spaulding St;Worcester 01603
