Harold “Harry” Stanley Litchfield passed away peacefully on Monday surrounded by his loving family. Harry spent his last days at home enjoying time with his children, grandchildren and extended family. Harry was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Anita (Gosselin) Litchfield in 2009.
Harry leaves behind 5 children: Lynne (Litchfield) Ritacco and her husband, Michael; Keith Litchfield and his wife, Ann Marie (Lucier); Philip Litchfield and his wife,Trayce (Taras); Martin Litchfield and his wife, Erin (Forhan); Brenda Litchfield, and his daughter of heart, Diana Hester.
Harry leaves 10 grandchildren: Jessica and Danielle Ritacco; Nichole, Ryan and Daniel Litchfield; Jamie and Michael Litchfield; Matthew, Hannah and Carly Litchfield. He also leaves behind one brother, Donald Litchfield and his wife Debbie; 5 sisters, Eleanor Benoit and her husband, Myron, Evelyn Mancini and her husband Bob, Barbara Murray, Helen Van de Mark and her husband Al, and Linda Williams and her husband Jack as well as many nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Frederic and Grace (Munroe) Litchfield and is predeceased by a brother, Frederic.
Harold was a man of strong faith in God and lived out his faith in every aspect of his life. He and Anita were married on May 11, 1957 and shared a lifetime dedicated to each other and their love for the Lord. Harry served in his Church, St. George Parish of Worcester, for 36 years in many different capacities, including serving during weekly masses, men’s club, Life in the Spirit and the Ecumenical Council as well as numerous other ministries. Harry and his wife Anita were honored in 2009 at the St. George Gala for their faithful years of service. When asked about all the time and effort he gave to the church, Harry responded, “I’ve always believed that whatever you give, you get back. And over the years, we’ve met so many wonderful people through the church. It really is a great place.”
In addition to his years of serving the church, Harry was a gentle, loving husband and father. He spent many years coaching and supporting his children at Joe Schwartz Little League. He had a love for music and would often be found whistling whether at work or play. Harry worked for Riley Stoker in the drafting department for 44 years, retiring 10 years ago. He and Anita spent their retirement enjoying each other and family while camping, traveling and attending many celebrations together.
Calling hours for Harry will be at the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., on Thursday, March 24th from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will held on Friday, March 25th from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m in St. George Church, 38 Brattle St. Burial will follow at the Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
