     Retired Worcester Police Officer, Guy F. Guerry, 83, of Worcester, passed away Veterans Day November 11th 2010 in the Radius Healthcare surrounded by family.
     Guy was born February 5th 1927; His mother was the late Helene Guerry. He graduated from Commerce High, entered the U.S. Marine Corps to serve his country in two Wars; World War II and then recalled to Active duty in Korea. Upon returning to Worcester Guy, worked as a Police Officer for the Worcester Police Department more than 33 years before retiring in 1992. As a police Officer, Guy was a patrolman, detective and motorcycle officer. He earned degrees in Criminal Justice from Quinsigamond Community and Assumption College’s.
     Guy is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Josephine A. (Garofalo) Guerry; two daughters, Geanne A. Portuondo of Worcester and Christine V. Knipe and her husband Samuel N. of Paxton; a sister, Barbara Moynahan in CT; four grandchildren, Andrea Peak, Mark Portuondo, Megan and Adam Knipe; five great grandchildren, Marissa, Brittany, Ryan, Mia and Isabella; nieces, nephews and many friends. A brother, Salvatore “Buddy” DeMarco pre deceased him.
     Guy was a member of St. Stephen’s Church. A active life member, honor guard, and sergeant at arms of Det. #144, Marine Corps League in Worcester and Military Order of the Devil Dogs. A motorcycle owner/ enthusiast Guy, was a life charter member, co-founder, and first president for 10 years and Present President of the Massachusetts Chapter, of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club. He was a co founder and member of the Pope John Council Knights of Columbus, and a member of the 4th degree Bishop O’Reilly Assembly. A member of the Eastside Post 201, American Legion, the Brown Square Civic Association, the Greendale Retired Men’s Club, The NRA, The International and Fraternal Brotherhood’s of Police Officers, The Massachusetts and Connecticut Police Association. The Worcester Police Pistol Team and Revolver League.
     Guy’s funeral with military honors will be held Monday, November 15th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 11:00 am in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday, November 14th from 3 pm to 7 pm in the Funeral Home. Member s of the Marine Corps League will meet at the funeral home at 645 to conduct their ritual. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton St. The Guerry family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Radius Healthcare and hospice for the wonderful care that Guy received.
