Subscription Update Obituary

    Gerald H. Lajoie, 82, of 359 Main St., in the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 at Christopher House in Worcester.

    He was the husband of Violet L. (Rochette) Lajoie who died in 2005. He leaves two sons: David O. Lajoie and his wife Mary of Leicester and Robert E. Lajoie and his wife Tammy of Cherry Valley; five daughters: Susan M. O'Brien and her husband Richard of Leominster, Linda A. Wheeler and her husband David of Blandon, PA, Marie L. Taft of Somerville, Ann L. DeYoung of Hopedale, and Brenda J. Daigle and her husband Marc of Ottisville, NY; four brothers: Ernest Lajoie of Worcester, Paul Lajoie of AZ, Roland Lajoie of Millbury and Normand Lajoie of FL; a sister, Madeleine Marchand of AZ; 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

    Mr. Lajoie was a self employed carpenter and owner of Gerald H. Lajoie Carpentry in Leicester.

    Born in Worcester, he was the son of Origene and Octavie (Boisvert) Lajoie. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade school and served in the National Guard. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and was a former member of the Leicester Rod & Gun Club. He was a gardener and enjoyed sharing his crops with neighbors and friends.

    He volunteered for "Serve New England" for over 20 years, and received the Maria Leal Giving Award for being an outstanding volunteer.

    The funeral will be held on Monday, Jan. 24 from the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Sunday, Jan. 23 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
