Auburn, MA George R. Gray, 73 of 75 Sumner Street, a U.S. Army veteran, died Thursday, October 18, 2001 at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Bessie F. (Hughes) Gray, two sons, James G. Gray of Jamesville, NY and Michal R. Gray of Port Royal, PA; three daughters, Victoria M. Gray, of Worcester, MA, Darlene V. Shade of Richfield, PA and Coreen S. Gray of Worcester, MA; two brothers, Alfred G. Gray, Jr. and Leo F. Gray, both of Milo, Maine; four sisters, Betty M. Lancaster of Milo, Maine, Violet M. Brown of Sheephills, Maine and Theresa R. Pearce, both of Brownville, Maine; 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. He was born in Bradford, Maine, son of Alfred G. and Beatrice M. (Stone) Gray and lived in Auburn for 25 years. He attended Milo public schools. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Gray was a mechanic and technician for Goodall & Sons. He later worked for Ernie’s Car Wash in Worcester and most recently as a small engine repair technician for Sears in Auburn. He was a member of Hadwin Park Congregational Church in Worcester, the Auburn Sportsman’s Club, the National Rifle Association and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife, music and spending time with his family.
The funeral will be held at 12:30pm Sunday, October 21st at Britton Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street. Calling hours are from 4 to 6pm Saturday, October 20th in the funeral home. After cremation, burial will be at 1:30pm Tuesday, October 23rd at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 300 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or the VNA Care, Inc. Hospice Program, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
