Subscription Update Obituary

    George J. Germain, Sr., 89, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Worcester, died on Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Saint Vincent Hospital, after a brief illness.

    His wife of 53 years, Alice J. (Beaudry) Germain died in 2000. Mr. Germain is survived by a son, George J. Germain, Jr. and his wife Doreen of Northboro, MA; three daughters, Cynthia J. Hargrave and her husband Alfred of Grafton, MA; Diane M. Maciorakowski and her husband Henry of Northboro, MA; and Beverly A. Columbus and her husband Mark of Coral Springs, FL; two sisters, Murielle Manseau of Worcester and Beatrice Murphy of West Boylston; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

    George was born in Worcester, son of the late Stanislas and Alphonsine (Beaudoin) Germain and is predeceased by a brother, Rodolphe and a sister, Mary Rita Courchaine.

    Mr. Germain is a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army, spending 23 months in the Pacific Theater.

    George worked for the Melville Shoe Company and later the Thom McAn Company as a billing clerk for 40 years retiring in 1981. He was an accomplished musician playing the saxophone and enjoyed dancing, playing cards and tennis.

    The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 20th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., Worcester with a Mass at 10 AM in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are on Monday, July 19th from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.

     Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
