George A. Kay, 74, of 181 Nola Drive Holden, a World War II veteran and a retired manager, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, at home after a short illness.

He leaves his wife, the Rev. Estelle (Huff) Rettig-Kay; a son, James A. Kay of Oxford; a daughter, Linda Malone of Oxford; two stepsons, H. Noel Rettig of Worcester and Larry Rettig of West Boylston; a stepdaughter, Holly Rettig Barton of Holden; two sisters, Marion Glavaris of Worcester and Mildred Wheeler of Venice, Fla.; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. His first wife, Pauline (Gibree) Kay, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Alfred and Blanche (Peters) Kay, and lived most of his life in Worcester before moving to Holden 14 years ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Kay was a terminal manager for Central New England Consolidated Co. Inc., retiring in 1988. He previously owned and operated Kay Brothers Oil Service.

He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 170. He was a longtime member of Covenant Methodist Church, Worcester, where he was a lay leader and chairman of the financial and parish committees. He was a member of the choir and was president of the Methodist Men. He was an active leader with his wife in the Methodist Church in West Warren, Wesley Untied Methodist Church in Worcester and North and South Brookfield churches in Maine. He was a coach with Jack Barry Little League and was a candlepin bowler with the Worcester County Church League, where he served as president. He and his wife enjoyed traveling.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, in Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main St., Worcester. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main St., Worcester, MA 01608. Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
